New year, big news!

What a great beginning to the year it's all ready been! Dears, I have news that probably surprises absolutely nobody: We got engaged during New Years! Not quite so cliche' as during Christmas, and who'd care anyway?

The ring is picked, but is expected to take a month to order in - so I'm going to be counting the days 'til I can show that beauty off! I don't really care about the ring, though - I care about the man. He surprised me with the absolutely sweetest card:
BRB, crying forever.

He hates to write, y'all. He dislikes it about as much as I enjoy it. But he knows it's something important to me and a means of communication that deeply speaks to me, so that's how he chose to propose. And I think he did a great job. Needless to say, my Evernote and my Pinterest runneth over with wedding ideas!

I wasn't thinking about getting outfit photos, obviously, because we were In The Moment - but I did at least get a mirror-selfie with a bathroom friend (truly, there's no friendlier place than the women's bathroom in a bar! And doesn't that smile of hers light up the whole room?)

  1. Woo! Congratulations! Marrying your best friend is the BEST. I have been married nearly 22 years (where the f**k did the time go??), and it's still awesome. I love the proposal (I read it, on the verge of tears, I mean, it's so DUSTY in here!). You must show us your ring!

Three pieces of advice (since I am an oldster) for a long and happy marriage:
    1. Always thank your partner for everything they do, even the stuff they are supposed to do, or stuff they do every day. Never stop the gratitude! I always thank my guy for emptying the dishwasher, every single time.
    2. Live your own life. Do your own thing, make time for it - be YOU. Yeah, still hang out together (a game night is my favourite thing for just the two of us), but make sure you nurture your own hobbies, friends and self.
    3. Wear good clothes around the house. My ex once said to me, "Why do you dress better for strangers than you do for me?" - stopped me in my tracks. When the sweats get hole-y, toss them. Consider a funky pair of jeans instead. Wear a nice(r) sweater. Make an effort - it may seem shallow, but it's good for your own self-esteem too, not just for him.

/gets off her high horse (heh)

Happy New Year! I love your outfit - you look sassy and happy. :)

    1. Thanks, Sheila! I'm definitely excited to show the ring off as soon as it gets in. The lady at the store said she'd request a rush from the vendor, but that's no guarantee it will get in any faster. And oh my goodness, the proposal definitely made me cry. He has no idea that he can actually write, but damn.

Thanks so much for the advice. I'm probably going to print it out and keep it in the same folder with the proposal letter.
